Rear Admiral AA Yusuf

Rear Admiral Ayodele Abib Yusuf was born in Lagos on 01 September 1959 to late Alhaji Adisa Yusuf and Madam Abake Yusuf both from Abeokuta in Abeokuta North Local Government of Ogun State in Nigeria. He attended Methodist Primary School from 1964 to 1970 and Eko Boys High School from 1971 to 1975, both in Lagos. He was at Federal School of Arts and Science Ogoja between 1975 and 1977 for his Advanced Level Studies. He attended University of Nigeria, Nsukka where he graduated in 1982 with honours in Electrical/Electronics Engineering. Rear Admiral Yusuf was enlisted into the Nigerian Navy on 20 August 1979 as a University Cadet and was commissioned on graduation in 1982 as a Sub-lieutenant.

Rear Admiral Yusuf attended professional and administrative courses both at home and abroad; notably amongst them were Engineering Application Course at Royal Naval Engineering College, UK; Junior Staff Course at Command and Staff College, Jaji, Intermediate Level Maintenance Course at Nigerian Naval Engineering College, Sapele; Logistics Course with Dornier Ltd, Senior Staff Course at Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College and National Defence College, Nigeria. The Officer has also attended seminars, workshops and conferences in the course of his career. Notably were Public Administration Programme at Ghana Institute of Public Administration (GIMPA); workshop on Budgeting and Due Process by Federal Ministry of Finance, Abuja; workshop on Special Foreign Purchase by US Defence Institute on Security Assistance Management. He has also attended several conferences, workshops and seminars organized by Nigerian Society of Engineers, Council for Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and the Nigerian Armed Forces.

Rear Admiral AA Yusuf has, in the course of his career, held several appointments in the Nigerian Navy. The notable ones were; Weapon Engineering Officer, NNS AGU; Staff Officer 2 Research and Development at Fleet Maintenance Corps; Weapon Engineering Officer, NNS AYAM; Officer-in-Charge, Arsenal Workshop at the Naval Dockyard; Directing Staff AFCSC Jaji; Staff Officer 1 Weapon and Staff Officer 1 Armament at NHQ; Fleet Maintenance Officer at Fleet Support Group (East), Training Commander, Nigerian Naval Engineering College, Sapele and Director of Weapon Engineering at the Nigerian Naval Headquarters, Abuja, Nigeria. He has a Masters degree in Strategic Studies from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria and a Post Graduate Certificate in Public Administration. He was a Directing Staff and Director Curriculum and Programme Development (DCPD) in the National Defence College, Abuja. He was also Director Academic Research and Analytical Support (DARAS) in the same institution. He was Commander Fleet Support Group (West) in Lagos and Director of Development at the Defence Headquarters, Abuja. He is presently the Commandant, Nigerian Naval Engineering College, Sapele. The Officer is a member of Nigerian Society of Engineers, Navy Sailing Club and United States Naval Institute. He is awarded/decorated with GSS, fdc+, psc+, MNSE and M NAV Institute.

Rear Admiral Yusuf is married to Mrs Maryan Yusuf and they have 2 children; a boy and a girl. He enjoys playing squash, reading and watching films.
