Know more about us
The Computer Engineering School (CES) is one of the 8 schools at the Nigerian Naval Engineering College (NNEC) Sapele. The School started as a computer training centre in 2001 to train Under Training Personnel (UTPs) and interested staff on Information and Communication Technology (ICT). This was to ensure that staff and students are computer literate and in tune with new ICT concepts. The Centre was later upgraded to CES and was commissioned on 28 Nov 13 with a view to running professional ND computer programmes with approval and accreditation by the NBTE.

Presently, the School has no dedicated students but has continued to conduct computer appreciation courses for students and staff of the College. Also, with the recent accreditation process already initiated for the award of National Diploma (ND) Certificates in Computer Science and Computer Engineering through the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), there are plans to commence ND programmes in the College for personnel and the civil populace. The idea of establishing the CES was to conduct professional computer engineering courses for students and trainees in line with NBTE framework.
The CES has a computer software laboratory, computer technology laboratory, ICT centre, computer maintenance/hardware workshop and simulation centre. Students receive lectures in the laboratories both in theory and practical. All sections in the CES are equipped with systems and training aids in an appropriate environment.
Computer Software Laboratory:
The computer software laboratory is equipped with 50 computer systems each in a cubicle networked together. These computers are installed with up to date software applications such as Auto CAD, CorelDraw, Microsoft Office, virtual studio, Autodesk recap, MATLAB, ANSYS and other computer engineering software. At the moment, the computers are connected with a robust computer server and linked together on Local Area Network (LAN) cable. The laboratory has adequate ventilation and air-conditional systems to provide conducive learning environment for the students.
ICT Centre:
The ICT centre is equipped with 15 computers connected with internet facility and 2 printers for ICT training. It also has solar panel and inverter as an alternative power supply to ensure continuous operation of the internet facilities.
Computer Maintenance/Hardware Workshop:
The computer maintenance / hardware workshop was formally used as computer training centre equipped with some computer hardware for practical training purposes. With the use of the hardware workshop, students are trained on how to diagnose system defects, repair and carry out maintenance of computer hardware. Some of the tools include precision screw drivers, soldering tools, magnifying lens, re-writable CD, digital multimeters, oscilloscope and digital microprocessor trainer amongst others.
Simulation Centre
The College has an installed Advanced Research International (ARI) Engine Room (ER) Simulator. The ARI ER Simulator was installed in partnership with the manufacturers, ARI New Delhi India. The simulator is used essentially by the Marine Engineering School as well as other Schools for training of students. The ER Simulator is used to acquaint the trainees with likely scenarios onboard NN ship engine room operations in a controlled environment before embarking on watch keeping duties onboard.
